The SGL Group and HITCO Carbon Composites, Inc. recently announced the formation of the start-up C-SiC team for establishing and promoting their SIGRASIC® and CERACARB® Product lines.

This team consists of a focused engineering, manufacturing and marketing group. SIGRASIC® products derive their extraordinary properties from C/SiC, a composite material which combines carbon fibers with a ceramic matrix to maximize material properties.
Carbon fiber reinforced silicon carbide is manufactured by infiltrating carbon reinforced carbon (CC) with silicon. The reinforcing materials used can be short and long fibers, woven carbon fabrics, felts, etc and the resulting products can be tailored to specific application requirements to offer cost effective solutions for heat treatment applications. Charging baskets, heat treatment racks, and other structures will benefit from SIGRASIC’s high specific properties.
Target markets include industrial applications, aerospace applications, as well as military/ballistic applications.

SIGRASIC® is currently in production for automotive friction applications with over 35,000 parts produced last year.
